Outfit Of The Yesterdays (A Little Bit Of Lace, A Little Bit Of Leopard)

Is there a trend out there that you still like to wear even if it has fallen off of the regnant-fashion-radar?

High-waisted pencil skirts with wide (corset-ish) waistbands were all the rage a few years ago, and while that ship has happily sailed out of most closets...I must confess that I'm still a bit of a sucker for them. The new ones, I mean--not the "Bebe And/Or Express Beasty Boudoir" skirts of yore. Cough.

Why do I like them? Pencil skirts in general are not kind to my super short, apple/ruler shape; and so a skirt with a wider waistband helps pull eyes upward while also inventing a bit of a waist--a miracle of miracles that most standard pencil skirts simply cannot create for me. I found the skirt that I am wearing below at H&M recently and was happy with how wearable it was for its price ($36!)--the lacy tiers also help to conceal some of my lumps and bumps and the wider, ruched waistband holds my chiffon blouses prettily in place.  Woohoo:

And it's officially that time of year again: New Year's Resolution Time! Have you made any yet? My #1 resolution this year is to take (more) pictures of myself posing like a 'toon.

(noooo idea.) (but not coincidentally, I walk around JUST like this in my fuzzy slippers for the first 90 minutes that I'm awake each day, arthritis-zombie-mode. so! just keeping it really rill here.)

...and my second resolution is to not properly clean my floors before taking pictures to post on the internets to thousands of people. I try to choose things that won't be too challenging, you know? And I'm happy to report that I'm doing splendid on both fronts. Is there anything I can't do?  Yes. Cartwheels.  Dark comedies  Pie crusts.  British accents. And my own taxes. Nope!

Jacket: Rory Beca (buy it here) (similar here, on sale) (similar here, under $100)
Top: Tibi, old (similar here) (similar at Target in "terra cotta") (similar at F21)

Shoes: J Crew Mona Oxford Glitter Pumps (buy them here) (similar here) (and a pointy-toe version here)
Bag: Marc Jacobs Cooper Bag in Nude (buy it here) (a smaller version here) (and at Topshop)
Bracelets: Seasonal Whispers Crystal & Metal Bracelets in Rosegold (buy them here) (similar by Vince Camuto) (similar under $20)
Lipstick: Rouge Dior Lipcolor -Blazing Red 638 (Sephora)

  9. LOVE the jacket. And I too have been eyeing up those J. Crew pumps. Supercute.

My New Year's resolutions include being more fiscally responsible, which I suspect will conflict with my looking fabulous in 2012. I totally agree on hanging onto trends that work for you, though. I think it's more important to be stylish than fashionable, if that makes sense. I pick up structured pieces and good draping when they're in style and keep wearing them, and I'm definitely hanging onto my snappy oxfords, because they work for my lifestyle.

  10. Awesome second look. The red lipstick really makes it.

I have no resolutions! I've only ever made one NY resolution and that was last year, to only buy second hand clothing. I failed miserably. Figured I might as well not try again!

  11. Chloe, while I coveted your red hair, I have to say that your platinum blonde hair + super red lips + leopard print jacket = AMAZING. It's so incredibly retro, but without being too on-the-nose. I love it! And I can't help but to hang on to the wide-belt-with-pencil-skirt look too! Plus, it really works on you. Never let it go!

  12. Thanks for the great comments, guys! <3

Thessa - thank you (so much!) for reading & supporting See Chloe Shop--hopefully you'll get some great deals!

Beautygirl24 - ooh, thank you! It's a little weird wearing such a bright lip color, since I almost always wear nothing on my lips, but it's fun too. Glad you like it since you're a cosmetics queen! *bows down*

Hi. I'm Julie. The Stalker - hahaha, your name cracks me up. And I hear ya on the clothes-on-the-closet-floor thing--gravity always drags them down, I swear! I'm the worst at hanging things back up sometimes...

Veronika - ooh, thanks girlie! ♥

Kimberly - hahaha, *thank* you. But you'd be surprised! I definitely have a little buddha belly that likes to pop out every once in awhile to say 'hi'--I just try to mostly keep those pictures off this blog. ;)

RosalovesDC - thank you Rosa! ♥

Mary Ann - ooh, *thank* you. Two thumbs up from two beauty queens, I think this shade is a keeper?

    Stacey - thank you!

My Dressy Ways - they were on back-order *forever* and I definitely didn't expect them to show up when they did. It was like a little Christmas shoe miracle, heh. (kidding)

Annabelle - great resolution! It might conflict a little, but there are definitely ways to look great on almost any budget--and there's no better feeling than conquering a good challenge. I hope you do some blog updates on it, too, so we can all follow along!

Contrary Kiwi - thank you! And hey, nothing wrong with being resolution-less. I've worked at a gym for the past 9 years now so I almost never make serious ones to follow (because unfortunately, I...well, I see a lot of people fail), but it is interesting how January 1st always seems "fresher" than December 31st, like a clean slate. It's a total mental thing, but funny nonetheless and I can see why others always try to do it!

  14. Can you provide a review of the j crew glitter oxfords? I love them but hesitate as I am worried the glitter rubs off easily. Please share about the fit and how you may protect the glitter on the shoes. Thanks - love your blog!
