Outfit Of The Day (Take Your Cause And Pass It Around...)

Are you guys getting pumped for Christmas? I know I am--my holiday cards are finally ready to mail out, my kitchen is stocked full of ingredients for cut-out cookies and homemade cinnamon ice cream, and my stacks of holiday catalogs have been poured over so thoroughly it'd put the 9-year old Chloe with her 500-page JC Penney Wish Book to shame. Shame!

But even though I'm ready for Christmas, there are still a lot of people that aren't. And I'm not talking about those freaky people that get some sort of weird rush out of shopping for presents at Walgreens on December 24th at 11:59pm my dad, oh no.

I am talking about those that are in need and may not be able to afford to give a sort of holiday celebration that they think their family deserves--or any holiday celebration at all.

No matter what holiday you celebrate this December, it is the season of giving--and one of my favorite things to do is to take a moment to remember those that are less fortunate and do something to help out. Here are three quick tips & ideas in case you're looking to get in on the charity-action, too:

  1. Toys for Tots - Run by the Marines, this charity exists in nearly every major US City and is almost always in need. They set up donation bins at several locations which makes it easy to donate; head here to search and find one close to you!
  2. We are all familiar with "wish trees"; they used to set one up in the mall every year when I lived in South Dakota, full of children's names and requests for toys.  But did you know that many nursing homes are beginning to do this for their residents, too? A good, personal friend recently tipped me off to this (thanks Cindi!), and they work much in the same way as the regular wish trees. The requests range from actual gifts (like socks, blankets) to simple things like a hug or a smile. Just make sure to give the local retirement home a call first before you head out, since I think this might be a fairly new (but brilliant) trend.
  3. Want to give to a local charity but unsure if they are actually legit? Make sure to hit sites like Charity Navigator before you open up your wallet; it provides ratings and transparency to thousands of organizations.  They also have a fascinating "top ten list" section, which includes lists like "10 Charities Worth Watching", "10 Celebrity-Related Charities", and "10 Highly Paid CEOs at Low-Rated Charities" (oh snap!).
  4. Or check out the website of any local news station. They will often do the grunt-work (and charity background checks!) for you and feature legit, local organizations that need the most help this season.

So! Go forth and do some good, readers.

That prattling aside, it is outfit time. I grabbed this Isabel Lu lace blouse for a steal last month during a sale on Hautelook (I even documented it over on Facebook, I was so smitten) and when the blouse finally arrived, I wasn't let down. Something about the scalloped trim, slim fit, and black-lace-on-nude reminds me of something very pretty; something very Valentino-esque.

While I paired it with slightly androgynous pants below, I can't wait to pair this puppy with full skirts, too.  I will never get sick of a pretty blouse:

Jacket: Rory Beca Moss Jacket (buy it here) (similar here at LOFT) (similar at Forever 21)
Pants: ASOS (buy them here)
Necklace: ALDO Accessories (similar here)
Shoes: J Crew Perfect Patent Pumps (similar here) (similar by Nine West) (another option by Nine West)
Bag: Kooba Josie Clutch (similar at Topshop) (similar here)
Lips: Nars Dolce Vita + Fantasia Lip Liner (buy it here) (and here)
Nails: NCLA Nail Stickers in Pink Rainbow (buy them here)

While I have been slightly obsessed with this pretty coat ever since it first popped up on Forever 21, the product picture made me do a bit of a shifty side-eye.

It just looked so pretty. Too pretty, in fact, for Forever 21.

Forever 21 has been selling quite a few things this season at slighty higher price points, and while I am typically not keen on plopping down $42 for a coat from Forever 21, this coat is worth it. I think it might even be the best thing I've found at that store this year. It is well made, fits nicely through the bust (so many of their coats have been running big in that area lately),and the sleeves are nicely shaped without being costumey.

It also has a handy belt  (which makes it wearable for almost all shapes and sizes) and while it won't keep me warm on a subzero day, it is weighty enough to throw over dresses this winter as long as the temps don't dip too much below freezing.

I love this coat so much that I have even purchased it to give to someone as a gift, woohoo:

Blouse: J Crew Lucinda Silk Blouse (similar here) (similar here) (similar by Free People, on sale)
Skirt: J Crew Jardin Skirt (similar here) (similar at American Apparel)
Belt: J Crew Factory (similar at GAP in "gravel")
Necklace: Old Ann Taylor (similar here by MBMJ) (similar here + take 40% off w/ "GET40")
Ring: Yves Saint Laurent Arty Ring in Aqua (buy it here) (similar by Amrita Singh)
Shoes: Manolo Blahnik Uliepe Pumps (similar by Kate Spade) (similar by Casadei) (similar here, under $20)
Bag: Chanel Crackled Patent Camel Classic Flap (similar here) (and here by DKNY) (and here for under $100)

  2. Ah, I'm disappointed I missed out on that Isabel Lu blouse. It's so pretty. And I love your new F21 coat. It looks way classier than a lot of things they usually sell.

  3. Love the blouse on the first one and I thought the style was very Valentino too. Beautiful.
The coat on the second looks gorgeous on you. Personally, I feel awkward wearing those type of sleeves but they look very pretty!

  7. love the coat! forever 21 has had some pretty good items this season, although at higher price points. I just got a $37 faux leather bomber jacket. it was the first faux leather jacket that i've seen that still felt soft and didn't look like it was made out of rain coat material

  8. I am in love with that blouse with the crisp black pants. I have never heard of Isabel Lu, but am completely smitten by the blouse - perfect blend of feminine and some edginess. Will you please tweet if you ever see it available again?

  10. You look fab as always! : ) Just read your disclaimer about seechloeshops. It's not hosted by Blogger? I JUST accidentally clicked one of the links on the blogspot site and it led to something unpleasant. *sigh*

  11. You never cease to amaze me with the outfits that you come up with on your blog.
I love the F21 coat! It has such pretty threads of color and I love the sleeves. F21 always have some kind of diamond in the rough. A million years ago in college, I actually scored a real leather coat there. It was pretty pricey to me at the time for $50, but I still have it and love it despite the fact that it is pretty snug now, lol.

  12. I am disappointed that you would buy real fur. Faux fur is cruelty free AND in style, there is no justification to support cruelty.

  13. I need to pay more attention to the coats at forever 21, you always find test ones there.
I am also so glad that you mention something about donating to charities this holiday season, so important to do. Food banks are in so much need right ow, we are making a donation there and encouraging our friends to so it as well.

  16. looking lovely as always! HOWEVER, that coat might look grandeur only on you... I tried the coat on in the fitting rooms and it looked comical. FYI I'm 5'2 and 100lbs so... anything can look comical on me. sad stories.

  17. For Gods Sake! She bought the jacket. She didn't kill an animal herself.

  18. kristin - thank you!

allison*elle - right? F21 has been surprising me a bit lately--seems like they're trying to step up to compete with H&M, Zara, and the like!

Mrs. Spanglish - Confession time--I usually hate wearing those types of sleeves too, since I have short limbs and they can make me look all t-rex-hates-doing-push-ups....but the sleeves on these work. They have just enough shape without being too big or voluminous.

A Bigger Closet - thank you! And have I told you how happy I am to see you reading + blogging again? YAY. <3

Lindsey A Turner - thanks Lindsey!

    bevy - <3

Elissa - YES. I tried on a faux leather drapey jacket a month ago in store and was really surprised at its un-faux-leathery look. F21 has its (major flaws), but I do occasionally like them for mixing trendy items into my wardrobe for cheap and so I'm happy that they seem to be stepping up their quality a bit. Fiiiiinally.

PetiteAsianGirl - I definitely will tweet it if I see it again! I bet you'd rock the holy smokeness out of that blouse.

    Fashion Fractions - thanks Neris!

The Little Dust Princess - ugh, so sorry that you clicked over on that. Stay away from the seechloeshop.blogspot.com posts and definitely drop them off your Google Reader! I assumed that when I deleted the domain last year, it would also delete the people following along via Google Friend Connect or RSS with it. Makes sense, right?

Nope. I was STUNNED today when I saw a bunch of posts pop up in my own blog reader today from seechloeshop.blogspot.com--I always follow/friend my own blogs just to make sure they are posting up okay, which is what tipped me off that someone else had claimed my abandoned blogspot domain as their own (and apparently, anyone on my old Google Friend Connect with it) so they can post spam.

http://www.seechloeshop.com is my legit website, http://seechloeshop.blogspot.com is not. So confusing, sorry guys, uggggh.

fshononmymind - real leather at F21?! Hahaha, wow. That's insane. And thanks. <3

RosaLovesDC - thanks! I have a knack for finding the coats at F21, I think. Just like I have a knack for crawling into small windows when we accidentally lock ourselves out of the house and dancing like a deaf, drunk penguin. I just asked Husband, and he says yes--that is exactly why he married me. Hehehehe. <3

    Jas - thank you!

    Robin - aw, thank you!

ME - aww, I hate that! I used to be a workout fiend (and your size) before I got sick and I remember that issue you well--I was constantly swimming in things. Vanity sizing, pfft. :(

    Gabby - thank ya! <3

  20. Chloe can you give any advice on the pant sizing at ASOS? I ordered those exact pants you have on in the 'braun' color a couple of months back but they were too big, I'm wondering if I should go 1 or even 2 sizes smaller.

  21. LOVE that blouse, and your glasses are amazingly fabulous.

  22. Haha, I had the rock tumbler - I loved it! Probably where my appreciation for making jewelry started1 ;-)

  23. You just look so gorgeous! Love the lace top. I think you could wear it with anything and it would look perfect.

  24. Gabby, a little IQ maybe? Buying the item DRIVES the market that kills the animals, get it?

  26. Stacey- thank you!

Erica- ooh, I'll try to give some advice here, but for as much as I love ASOS, their only major flaw (IMO) is the lack of consistency with pant sizing. It tends to be all over the place, but I have found that more often than not they tend to run small. HOWEVER, you are right with these pants--they run big! I am never keen on suggesting this, but the best thing to do is to grab 2 sizes and return whichever doesn't fit. Asos has free return shipping (they include a pre-paid label w/ all orders) which makes it easy. And while they aren't super fast w/ processing, every return that I have made with them is typically credited back to my bank account in about 3 weeks. Just something to think about--HTH!

Kate Jackson thanks so much, Kate!

Mary Ann- hahahahaha, NO WAY! I seriously wanted that darn rock tumbler so bad, never got it. Soooo jealous, you have no idea.

    beautygirl24- awww, thank you. <3

CharlotteSometimes- I realize that not everyone is going to love everything that I wear, and I fully understand why fur is a hot button issue. It is a personal choice that I am comfortable in making, but I am always open to listening to opposing opinions as long as they are stated respectfully.

    hannastigff- THANK you! Will do.

  27. I LOVE the coat. I never would have guessed that you could buy it for under $50 at Forever 21 -- it looks much more luxe! I'm tempted to buy one for myself now! ;)

AND... the desription on F21 clearly states that it is faux fur.
