And another study on petite proportions.
I've mentioned on here precisely 07q878q47q32984271891 times that I have a pretty weird body. I make no bones (hardy-woo-ha!) about it, even if my self-deprication only serves as a thin-and-rather-obvious veil to shroud my insecurities. I have a long torso! I have the shortest legs ever! My head is huge! One day I saw in my trackbacks that someone was talking about me on a German forum dedicated to gloves! And I had no idea what they were talking about since it was in German! But I'm going to guess it was probably really weird because it was a german forum dedicated to gloves! Nothing normal ever comes out of somethin' like that, right? Right.
I wore the outfit below for a lovely night out furniture shopping (hence the flats) and stuffing my face at The Cherry Cricket + D Bar Desserts. Good times!
Once I took a look at the OOTD pictures after the fact, however, I then spent about 10 minutes trying to figure out how my camera somehow morphed me into an Oompa Loompa. My torso--so long! My legs--so short!
When I (obnoxiously) asked my homies that were with me that night if I looked that distorted in person, they all replied no. No Chloe, they said, you did not look like you had a bad wrestling accident with a cheap carnival fun house mirror. Every single one of them said it; they all denied it. I have such good, honest-to-god-lying friends--the best type of friends to have.
But oh well. In spite of my obvious need to find some high-waisted denim skinnies ASAP, I still really like this outfit and will probably wear it again. The
GAP jeggings are ridiculously comfy, and sometimes I just get tired of paying attention and following rules when dressing myself. Sometimes I just want to embrace my body and all of its goofball proportions, and not think so hard about it, and I suppose that the outfit below is a great example of doing just that.
Also, rusty-orangey-red has always been one of my favorite colors for fall. It's popping up everywhere this year, and so I am happily collecting everything I can find in this hue. This J Crew blouse is a great example, and it goes quite well with the shop-vac in the background (if I do say so myself):

Next up we have a bit of the opposite. I have been slightly obsessed with the Pilcro Superscript flares over the past few months, even going as far as to try them on every single time I found an Anthropologie. I tried them on in Denver! I tried them on in Minneapolis! I tried them on in Denver again! And again! And again!
I finally gave into the temptation a few weeks ago after my 100th time of trying them on. I have been boo-hissing Anthropologie most of this year due to their suddenly strange inventory (I am not paying $500 for a
blanket of a coat that runs XS-S-M-L, thanks) but....
oh these flares. They are fun and ridiculously comfy, with a good amount of stretch to keep them snug but cozy, too. They are totally worth having to break my Anthropologie ban.
The only problem? My inseam hovers between 29 to 30 inches; in the pictures below I am teetering around in 4.5" heels and I still need to get them hemmed up a bit a lot. I snapped these pictures right before I sent them in to the tailors and until I get them back, I promise that I have feet. You'll just have to trust me here, guys:

Seriously, German forum on gloves? LOL!!!
ReplyDeleteI think I have similar proportions as you and I don't really pay attention to how to balance myself out other than seeing pictures and thinking "oooh do not wear that like that again!"
I love the Fall colours in this outfit. I'm hoping the Gap Canada site will have that blouse I love it on you, and it's not in Petite is it? Usually Gap non-petite blouses are too big on me but I can wear some jean in regular sizing. Our strange bodies! We just need to learn to deal! ;)
Beautiful, gorgeous, lovely looks, Chloe! I was starting to freak out because after finishing your whole blog new to old, I've been anxiously awaiting your latest look, lol. Love your colour combinations and if you ever get sick of that gorgeous Ann Taylor necklace, please holler!
ReplyDeleteI love both of those blouses! I like the fact that both outfits match each other. Those flares look amazing on you and make you look ridiculously tall and not oompa loompa at all!
ReplyDeleteI fight with my body constantly. Short legs with big calves, short torso, no behind. :( But regardless, you have impeccable style and sometimes, you just gotta say, forget it. I'm going to wear it anyway! (And delete the photographic evidence.)
ReplyDeleteLOVE the last outfit! Those pants are AMAZING and the blouseis beautiful!
Those corduroy Anthropologie pants are awesome! Did you have to alter them at all because I am 5 foot and I hate to ruin the bell bottom hem? Please let me know! I would love a pair, but hate to buy online without trying on. xx

Love those flared pants. And for the record, I don't thin your body looks at all distorted. I guess we are always our own worst critics!
ReplyDeleteLOVE the rust color top! And those Miu Miu flats! Both looks are super cute :D
ReplyDeleteI think you are being too hard on yourself, and in the first picture, I am not seeing an oompa loompa disproportionate woman but regardless it is you who sees it in the mirror. Love the necklace in the second photo, well I like both outfits...hope you are doing well!
ReplyDeleteYou are gorgeous--STFU! lol. I love the Fall colors you're rocking, that rust is gorgeous--great accessories too.
ReplyDeleteThat necklace is insane..I love it! I just ordered rust colored skinny cords from gap, patiently waiting for them to arrive :)
ReplyDeleteLove these colors for fall! You look gorgeous!

This outfit is so beautiful on you. I'm loving every aspect of this outfit.
ReplyDeleteOh I have that JCrew necklace! Love it!
ReplyDeleteBoth looks are gorgeous!
Ok seriously why must you be so perfect?! Share your perfection with me PLEASE??
ReplyDeleteLove love LOVE these outfits. You look amazeballs. Don't care what you say.
You are too hard on yourself. You are very beautiful. The 2nd picture shows that you have a mile long leg.jealous.
ReplyDeleteI love both outfits, especially the necklace in the 2nd. I also have super short legs with a long torso. Sigh.
ReplyDeleteI feel like we're our own worse critics when it comes to body "flaws"... you do not look like an Oompa Loompa, Chloe! I can see you're loving rust right now; those flares are great but I agree with you on Anthro's odd pricing these days.

Ugh, Chloe, I'm supposed to be starting my new shopping austerity regimen. And NOW you have me pining over high waisted Pilcro cords and a fantastic J. Crew blouse...SIGH.
ReplyDeleteYou look amazing in both outfits. And I love that you're embracing your perfectly-you proportions. =)
You crack me up, and then I see the pictures and think "what the hell is this chick smoking?" You look amazing. I have a very similar body to you, but add BIG boobs and a ghetto booty. Those are a lot of fun when I want to dress up and not look like a Kardashian sister.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for introducing me to make your own jewelry on Kendra Scott. I am going to go crazy!

Your legs look a mile-long in those Anthro flares! Gorgeous, lady.
ReplyDeleteI always love how you pair colors together in a way I would never think of but always ends up looking fantastic and inspired. I'm also on the hunt for a good pair of highwaisted skinnies but I also love a good pair of gummy denim - love the gap pair you're wearing here.
ReplyDeleteSWEET JESUS I LOVE THAT SECOND OUTFIT! I am going to try those pants on and MAKE them work.
ReplyDeleteYou look gorgeous! Especially on the second outfit. You look so tall on those flares!

Here are high-waisted cords.

Skinny cords, that is.
ReplyDeleteGreat looks, I love the colors!
ReplyDeleteAnd as far as the Oompa Loompa thing, 1) you don't have green hair and have a far more beautiful body than any oompa loompa I've ever seen, and 2) we are all our own worst critics! We all think we have these major flaws, but in reality people hardly notice them near as much as we do.
Just found your blog and so so happy I did - I also have a weird body, proportion-wise, and standing at 5' 1/2", I can absolutely attest that finding cute clothes that fit is near impossible!! I suggest heading over to Ann Taylor LOFT and trying their petites section - right in store so you don't have to order online! Lots of cute stuff that actually fits, including colored cords! (okay, I may work there... but I work there bc of the petites section and that awesome employee discount! But seriously, check it out)
ReplyDeleteAlso, you're gorgeous. And super chic. So no more bad talk!
