Edit: Sorry guys - fixed the link to my boutique! Now it should work. :)
It's a pretty interesting website. If you use Shopstyle, it's set up much in the same way but only (I think) much better- it takes what we search for on Shopstyle a few steps further by customizing the searches to our tastes. When you register, you fill out an extensive little survey dealie (favorite pant shapes! favorite color of mittens! size you wear in underwear!); as you search for things on boutiques.com, you can also "love" and "hate" various aspects of a product and the program then saves that information to tailor future specialized picks for you both when you search, and in a section called "inspired by my style".
It's in its beta stages, so I was a little perturbed when I spent about an hour (or um, three) filling out that survey of what I liked and hated (and my favorite shape for pants, and my favorite color for mittens, and my underwear size) and it spit back the ONE color for mittens I implicitly said I DO NOT LIKE. I DO NOT LIKE TIE-DYE MITTENS, OKAY BOUTIQUES.COM?! I SAID NO TO TIE-DYE 200 TIMES.
And I'm also pretty sure that when I mark my style as being "romantic/classic", I'm not going to tromp around in this:
...any time soon, and I'm not sure if I should be offended or gleefully amused that Google thinks that the above outfit is "inspired by my style" mostly because I think we all know here that I actually like to wear my native american feather head dresses with my favorite Ann Taylor sheath dress, geez.
But I spent some time searching, loving, and hating a bunch of products on Wednesday; and when I logged on again this morning it brought up items much closer to things I'd actually like and you know- buy. Hooray! It just needed to think about it for a bit, I guess. I understand, Google; I'm a thinker too. Good things take time.
You can also add items to your "favorites", and the program is then supposed to save those items so anyone that "likes/follows" your boutique can see them. Again, a very cool idea, especially because boutiques.com already has customized boutiques created by fashionistas like
Olivia Palermo and
Carey Mulligan and fashion bloggers like
Susie Bubble and
Alix (of The Cherry Blossom Girl). It appears to not be working quite the right way, however, because I have close to 50 items saved in my favorites but only about 9 are actually showing up at the moment. Hopefully the rest will pop up soon!
It also has a few other fun features- when you search for an item, a "visually-similar" section pops up with items that are "visually similar" (duh) but varied in prices. Google also has a Polyvore/lookbook.nu/etc feed running along the side, so if you search for a certain product that someone has utilized it in a Polyvore/lookbook.nu/etc set, that image will pop up. Search for "j. crew sequin skirt" and you'll see what I mean. It's like insta-ideas on how to style things!
So all in all, this little program is on its way to being pretty badass once the kinks are worked out, and I have no doubt in my mind that I should be trembling in fear right at this moment 'cuz it's going to render us poor fashion bloggers completely useless. Hooray for Google! But-oh-again, you can
check out my boutique here, and if you've already made a boutique please leave the link to it in the comments so we can follow each other. :)
On to the outfit. In my head brown + black completely go together, as we've discussed countless times here before, 'cuz if they didn't some poor leopard would be all embarrassed and would not be the king of the jungle in the wild. I know most people think the lion is the king of the jungle, but have you ever heard anyone oohing and ahhing over a luscious lion-print bag or coat? And what about that ridiculous Disney movie with the lions, the one that makes me cry every time I watch it?
The leopards are the real kings, but please don't ever google "circus leopard" if you're ever typing up a blog post about your affinity for clashing colors and on leopards being the king of the jungle on a Sunday afternoon because, ah....uhhh...just don't. Also don't search for "cigarette smoking leopard on a skateboard" because that's just frustratingly fruitless as well.
You're welcome.
Outfit!
