Chloe's Capacious Closet (While You Were Sleeping)

I will admit, readers, that yes- I can be fairly critical of J Crew. And maybe not in a good way; at times I am perhaps a bit too harsh with my disdain for the retailer. I know a few of you share my vehement views, while others are likely left scratching their heads and wondering exactly what Mickey + Jenna & gang did to make me so harried and hoppin' mad.

They did one simple thing readers to get me so revved, and you know what it was?

It was the Wool Double-Serge Pencil Skirt in Bronzed Ochre from the Fall collection, 2008.

Oh yes, the Wool Double-Serge Pencil Skirt in Bronzed Ochre. It's that darn skirt, you see, that has me so fired up. It hangs in my closet, pristine and silent as most of my articles of clothing tend to do, yet so lambent and resplendent and...and...and...freaking bad ass. Every once in awhile J Crew comes out with something great, something that stands out from the crowd and is a bit odd, yes, but can be worn in limitless, surprising ways and is uncontainable in its awesomeness-

That skirt is uncontainable in its awesomeness.

The fabric is thick, soft, and substantial; the color is odd (what exactly is an ochre, and why is it bronzed?) yet not entirely fortuitous. It goes with everything, even shit you wouldn't normally think it would match. Whites? Yes! Purples? Of course! Pinks and teals and greens and oranges and grays and browns? Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, and yes!

That skirt, you see, stands for everything that J Crew used to be.

And it now stands for everything that J Crew no longer really is.

Bring back another gem like this skirt, don't let Jenna name really bland cardigans after herself, and I might just be made a believer again.

Admittedly, I haven't completely thrown in the towel yet- as long as you don't mess with the shoes, J Crew, I'll hang on.

('Cuz I know you totally need me.)

(DON'T. MESS. WITH. THE SHOES!)

Visions of My Voyages (Thus Far)

I hope you don't have your hopes up; I just realized that the only pictures I've snapped so far are either of dogs, food, or the squirrel swinging on the bird feeder in front of my gramma's picture window at her house. She (my gramma) insisted that I take some pictures for her of it swinging back and forth, back and forth; so here you go!

All 23497287032 of them:

Okay, I lied. We'll start with Nina. Nina = cutest yorkie everrr.

Olive, AKA The White Ninja, AKA The White Fury, AKA The Brain, AKA Butt Wipe, AKA Shnoodle, AKA "Skitz", AKA...

Gus is waitin' for the FOOD.

Olive and Inge. This is the only shot I have of Inge (my sister's French Bulldog), and probably the only shot you'll get of her. She's fun.

My twin sister with Violet, the chihuahua.

Hi Gramma. I'm not sure why she's holding that basket and box of tissues. We're talking politics, and I think she thinks we're going to steal it.

She made me chocolate cake + sprinkles. So good!

This is my Gramma's dog, Dixie. Dixie wants to kill every person that isn't my Gramma. She's plotting my death riiiight now.

See? Squirrel in the window. For you, Gramma. For you.

On the floor of my Gramma's kitchen.

On the way up to Minneapolis. Whenever I would start singing along with the music, they'd turn the volume up. I know right? So strange.

Mecca? (nooo.)

Jason hauling something through the rain. Rain, rain, rain.

I snapped this this afternoon- the sun finally peeked out, and this tree in my sister's backyard smells so good!

Oh. I'm not supposed to be snapping pics. We're going on a walk.

This is Jason making his excited face.

"Going on a walk" my ass. Sister walks like her butt is on fire.

And for some strange reason, she started running when I started jamming to the Black Eye Peas 1985 Boombox Stylee out my iPhone.

I got that boom boom POW.

THE END!

(for now)

Chloe's Capacious Closet (All Wound Up)

I snapped these pictures in the beginning of April as an actual Outfit Of The Day, but never got around to actually posting them! I'll keep this post brief; I'm going to be back a bit later with some pictures I've snapped during my trip so far on my iPhone. I typically travel without my good camera, so iPhone pictures it is.

(Thank goodness gracious for Hipstamatic, hm?)

Chloe's Capacious Closet (Drip Drip Drop Little April Shower)

I'm still on my little trip back to South Dakota. In a weird way, it's also odd being back- having been gone now for as long as I have been (and having only ventured back a handful of times) makes me feel drunk. I feel a sick-sort-of-intoxicated we drive around and I kind of remember where things are, but...not really. It's a constant feeling of deja vu, actually- like I've been here before (because...I have been) but my brain can't quite organize things the right way. It's been filed in my brain at some point, but it's all foggy as I try to pull those dusty file folders up and remember exactly how things are.

We ventured up to Minneapolis on Saturday; it always surprises me how many people live in an area that gets even colder in the winter than Sioux Falls (seriously!). They also take their fashion oddly seriously there, which might come as a surprise to those that don't live or have never ventured to the area- lots of leggings, lots of black. Lots of leggings. LOTS OF LEGGINGS. I've never jumped on the leggings bandwagon myself, as you have all likely noticed; they do nothing for the long-torsoed/short-waisted so let's not kid ourselves there. Go away, leggings, please. I am patiently waiting.

They have a more conservative, serious approach to fashion in Minneapolis, I think, similar as you'd see in New York City. I always preferred venturing down to Omaha when in high school instead- where it almost felt more hippy-dippy California "West coast" for those into fashion. I could be completely wrong in my assessment, but it's funny how 10 years later I still get that really strong vibe from things- Minneapolis seems to be all about the minimal accessories, sleek hair, lots of black and grays. Ferocious. (The gloomy, cloudy, constant rainy weather we've had for the past five days straight in this area probably doesn't help my dismal and depressing assessment- I love color, and lots of it!)

I also had my first trip to IKEA. Aside from the fact that I didn't understand what was happening during the first half of it (my horrible, awful, confusing mistake) (following the yellow brick road, following the yellow brick road- and I kept trying to find the section WITH NO PEOPLE IN IT. WHERE IS THE SECTION WITH NO PEOPLE??) I'm still not sure how I felt about it. I do know Husband is going to have a complete meltdown when ours opens in Denver in 2011. Awesome.

Now if he ever does anything mean to me and I need to seek some sort of awful, wretched revenge, I will just lead him astray in IKEA. Glad I finally have that figured out. Whew. *coughs*

And we met up with an old friend from high school and her boyfriend. It was great seeing them, just wish we could have stayed for longer. :(

On to my outfit for today- er, playing dress-up before I left. The rules of fashion- are they meant to be made, or meant to be broken? For instance, I love mixing brown and black together. Especially the more cognac browns; but when I put my "mocha colored" cardigan from Banana Republic on with this outfit I loved it with the thick black of the skirt waist, too. I think, as long as you're not throwing a brown belt on an all-black outfit (or vice versa) and just keep the brown and black as accents, it's perfectly fine- if not totally freaking awesome.

You can't see it very well, but my earrings are actually the same shade as my heels and clutch- they're a cheap find (only $8!) from Target. I've never felt any sort of compelling need to spend a lot of money on my jewelry; Target and Forever 21 have the best jewelery sometimes, I think- perfectly priced and easy to wear.

The sandals I'm wearing are also now on sale, you can find free ship codes for ALDO on my Steals & Deals blog, woohoo!

Chloe's Capacious Closet (The Chic & The Fuzzy)

I had snapped these photos for Chictopia's The Chic & The Fuzzy Pet Contest awhile back; Petunia talked me into it because she really felt, she said, that she had a good chance to school all the other bishes and win.

And yet this is the only decent shot I managed to get because no matter what I said, she kept insisting that her butt was her best side.
...
...
...
I TOTALLY THINK WE'RE GONNA WIN.

♥ About...

Chloe, Colorful Colorado. 5'8" (only) when teetering in her highest 6 inch Miu Miu platform heels. Likes fashion, broccoli, ice cream, clarifying that she does not eat ice cream with her broccoli as to not cause worldwide panic, hoarding beauty products & pretty shoes, tickle fights with her husband (he would like to clarify that he does not like them back, OKAY?), anything covered in sprinkles, any alcoholic beverage made with Tang, live music, clicking the camera, sarcasm fonts, vases stuffed full of pretty flowers, and laughing hard until her belly hurts. Wants an adventurous life, lots of puppies, to never obtusely wander around with her fly down, and to be an iconic Diane Von Furstenberg wrap dress with a bright, festive print when she grows up. This is where she bravely documents it all. (oh you really want more, do you?)
