In Review: Banana Republic Sloan Fit Velvet Pants (And Black To Blurry, Boo)

I originally snapped this outfit during the awful and tragic Lost Wireless RemoteGate last week and had full intentions of reshooting them now that I have my remote back, but...never quite got around to doing that.

But the pants I'm wearing are 40% off (through tonight only with code "MONDAY40AB"), and I love them! Seriously, seriously love them- they are so ridiculously soft and perfect for pairing with silky, embellished blouses and heels for the holidays.

So here's  a review in case you want to grab them too, bad pictures and Chloe-looking-like-she-needs-a-200-hour-nap be darned.

First things first- these are the Sloan fit Velvet Flared Pants, which Banana Republic describes as being:

Sitting lower on the waist with a sleek, gently-flared leg, our newest Sloan is evening-ready in a supple velvet fabrication.

Gently-flared leg?  Check.  Supple velvet fabrication (of awesomeness)?  Double-check.

The sizing on these is a little goofy.  In these first pictures, I'm wearing them in the regular-inseam (33 inches) which I had purchased to wear with high heels and my short 29" inseam legs- I figured 4 inch heels would work well with them, right?

Not quite.  While I like my trousers slouchy,  they probably need to be taken up at least an inch if not two- I'm wearing them with 4.5" heels  here and they're still dragging quite a bit, so I think the inseam might actually be a touch longer than the 33" stated.

Cardigan: Urban Outfitters (buy it here, on sale!)
Top: Gap Silk Applique Blouse (buy it here + take 40% off today only with code "MONDAY40AB")
Pants: Banana Republic Sloan Fit Velvet Pants (buy them here + take 40% off today only with code "MONDAY40AB")
Belt: Old J Crew (similar style here)
Shoes: Alexander Wang Leopard Print Isabeli Mules (buy them here) (a fun option here for under $100!)
Bag: Chloe Paraty in Rosewood (similar style here) (and here in mauve, on sale!)

I then swapped them for the short inseam (which is 31 inches and one inch longer than the petite inseam) and they're perfect with 3" to 3.5" heels, absolutely no slouchy dragging on the floor. The short inseam also fits a bit smaller through the waist- I sized down one size from my J Crew size for the regular-inseam and they were still a little loose through the waist, but that exact same size in the short inseam was pretty tight. I also feel that these pants fit fairly high-waisted, which I like (it's perfect for tucking in blouses), not "lower on the waist" like the website says. Just a bit of FYI if you're trying to figure out sizing!  Here they are in the short inseam paired with my Louboutin Mater Claudes:

So if you're petite like me (5'2"...5'3" on a good day?) and want to wear them with heels, I'd do the short inseam (not petite) and consider ordering them in your usual J Crew size.  If you're taller, the regular will probably work out well but consider sizing down a size, and even if they need a bit of hemming up due to the length they are well worth it in the end.  These pants are probably the most favorite thing I've purchased from Banana Republic this year, and 40% off makes them a great deal! *dies*

  7. Pants looking swanky! The style looks super cute on you.

Speaking of cute, have you seen the new Japanese search and rescue dog? Officer Momo is a long-haired chi. (http://dlisted.com/node/39747) Think Petunia would serve as the American liaison of Adorableness?

  9. Chloe, I stumbled upon your blog while looking for boots, and I absolutely adore your sense of style! May I ask how you do your hair? It's messy yet put together. I love it. In fact, may I ask what you tell your hairdresser when you cut it? I need a new cut and I am loving yours! Thank you in advance!
