Outfit Of The Day (Tweedy or Not.)

I think a lot of women view knee-socks with a bit of trepidation, and truthfully I'm not exactly sure why. It must be understood that there is definitely a fine line between looking like a sex-ay school girl and looking like...well, not- but I think as long as you keep things covered up on top (no mini skirts or cleavage!) I think it's perfectly fine to rock the sock.

Part of the reason I started this blog was because I, as my twin sister so eloquently put it, "needed to stop dressing like a 16-year old." I definitely felt clueless over what was "appropriate" as I neared my late 20's, and I all too often found myself still staring wistfully through the windows of Abercrombie and Fitch (blah!) on a regular basis. I feared, readers, that embracing my "adulthood" also meant throwing in the towel on darling things to dress in. This blog was a mission, I felt, towards tackling the big issue of dressing myself without looking dowdy or like a school marm.

Essentially- I wanted to embrace the big question over whether or not it's okay to have fun with your clothing as you get older.

And readers? You know what? It's okay. That is the answer right there because I said so- it is okay.

It's okay! It's okay to have fun with what you wear no matter what your age. And if anyone thinks it's not okay, tell them to shut their faces, because I (a little, goofy person on the internet named Chloe) said so.

There are three things in life I firmly believe in:

1. Deep conditioning my hair once a week.
2. Neil Patrick Harris' fantastic awesomeness.
3. IT'S OKAY TO HAVE FUN WITH WHAT YOU WEAR AS LONG AS YOU KEEP WHAT NEEDS TO BE COVERED COVERED AND ALWAYS WEAR A BRA AND FOR THE LOVE OF CRIPES, NO 5" HEELS TO THE OFFICE.*



*and if you have any question over whether or not something needs to be covered, if it even crosses your mind for .02 nanoseconds that you're perhaps showing an inappropriate amount of skin- ladies, chances are it does AND OMG YOU ARE. Just stick with that rule. Please. PLEASE.

And so as long as you keep those three things in mind (and watch How I Met Your Mother every Monday night at 7:30pm on CBS), you'll be fine. I promise.

The Metallic Tweed "Mini" (at 19", it isn't really that mini) is amazing and going to be something I'll be wearing a lot in the next few months- the fabric is oh so soft and thick yet hugs everything in the right places. Same with the ruffle pumps, although I will recommend going 1/2 a size up as they fit tight in the front, mmhm. But oh, they are GORGEOUS.

In A View (Remembering Violets Dress)

The Remembering Violets dress is keenly described on the Anthropologie website like this:

"Thoughts of warmer days are never far away when you slip on this floaty chiffon frock, peppered with ever-fresh floral appliques just above the empire waist."

Which is a great way to describe it. And I think that is why I like the dress so much; it's such a breath of fresh air to the normal, nondescript dresses of winter.

It's also a breath of fresh air to the dresses that I typically wear. You know, those form-fitting, super-skin-tight-zip-the-zipper-right-into-the-ribcage-and-DO NOT-'cuz-you-CANNOT-take-a-deep-breath-the-entire-night-you-wear-it dresses that fit and flatter in all of the right places.

And this dress, um. Doesn't.

Which is both a good thing and a bad thing, I think. Empire waists can be a bit tricky, and it seems like they're always tricky on someone my size. I am short, and so it seems all the more pronounced and all the more viable that I either ate a really heavy dinner, swallowed a bowling ball, and/or am pregnant with quintuplets.

But that is kind of what I love about this dress. It isn't form-fitting at all. It is really comfortable. This is kind of like the sweatpants of dresses, only you know- a lot more pretty.

I am wearing it in my usual size 0 and I got it zipped up easily, no problem:

I also snapped a few pictures of the dress very quickly (and very loosely) styled. I feel that since it is such a "flowy" dress, it definitely needs something fitted on top to balance it out:

I was torn at first whether or not to keep the dress since it's a bit tricky to style. But it's also nice having a dress in my closet that I can be comfortable in, since I own so few (NONE!) of those. I also think this dress is fairly versatile once given a bit of thought; it can be easily worn on a variety of body types if paired with the right accessories and layers. It might need a little more thought than other dresses, but readers? It's worth it.

Yup, I'm keeping it because it is just so darn pretty, readers. So darn pretty. AndIhaveaslightproblemwithhoardingdresses, sigh.

Outit Of The Day (La La La Leopard.)

The 'rents left early this morning after an awesome breakfast of donuts, and now it's back to business as usual.

I had lots of fun with the parents in town, though. It went by too fast! We hit up the outlet mall yesterday (oh, such a treasure that place is) (but I did get this awesome thing to hang in my office, which is by ex-Project Runway Season 3 alum AND head Principal Designer for Barbie Robert Best!), ate at Sweet Tomatoes (love it, you guys, I am such a secret sucker for a buffet), listened to my dad dissect and anatomize the entire October 2008 J Crew Catalog for about 45 minutes (which oh my god, where was my camera as he was waving it around in the air and protesting to Husband because I never knew my Hanes t-shirt wearing, truck driving dad had such a vehement and well-formed opinion on men's clothing from J Crew and/or fashion in general) (I think you've been spending too much time alone in the truck, dad, SINCE YOU NOW READ THIS) and saw Men Who Stare At Goats, which is a lot funnier than I expected it to be. It's a quirky, dumb sort of funny. And readers? I like that sort of funny. ;)

And, I mean, come on- George Clooney and Ewan McGregor are in it. I'd sit and watch them brush and floss their teeth for two hours, never mind see a movie with both of them in it. Right right right, mmhm.

I also spied this "limited edition" dress at Target. Unfortunately it was sold out in my size so I couldn't try it on, but the back on it is to die for! I love the low v-neck and bow- it's definitely a dress worth checking out if you're in desperate need of a (cheap) little holiday dress.

In A View (Elle Rosette Coat)

I've been in love with the Freshly Fallen coat at Anthropologie for some time now; everything about the coat (the color! the shape! the rosettes!) screams "CHLOE! YOU! YOU YOU YOU YOU YOU!"

But let's be a little honest here, the coat does have a few drawbacks. First, it's a spendy little bugger. And second...well, that color. I could see myself brushing up against a dirty-snow covered car and that'd be the end of it. And the only freshly fallen thing left after that would be my sad little face.

Right? Right. Am I punny? I am punny. And more than you will ever know, readers; more than you will ever know.

So I was happy happy happy when I spied a similar style coat by Elle at Kohl's- and not only was it cheaper (about 1/3 the price of the Anthro coat!) but it was also black. Yay!

I ordered the coat online (my local Kohl's store is always a hot little mess, so I avoid when possible) and it arrived yesterday and holy moly, readers. Holy. Moly. It's even better than I thought it'd be:

The coat does have a few drawbacks, though. Mainly that the XS is still a teensy bit big on me through the waist (nothing that can't be fixed with a wide, simply black belt if need be) and the sleeves are a touch too long- but these are issues I always have with regular sizes. If the coat were available in petite it'd be perfect, but alas it is not so I will just have to make do with it on my 5'2" frame.

Now the good stuff! The coat itself is thick and surprisingly warm. The fabric it is made out of is fairly soft (it's a polyester/rayon/spandex blend); I'm sure its more expensive counterpart would be even softer, but for being a coat that's less than $100 it is of good quality. It has a sweet, slightly flared a-line shape, is nicely lined, has pockets (woohoo!), and the best part of all? The rosettes are AWESOME. They came nicely packaged with cardboard around each one to help protect them from smooshing while shipping, and they really pop nicely off of the coat with no extra assistance required from me. I am literally wearing the coat straight out of the plastic bag it was shipped in in these pictures.

The Elle Rosette coat is a definite winner in my book, but if you want it you'd better act fast 'cuz it is quickly selling out of sizes online. I'm not sure about the in store situation because, like I said, I try to avoid that scenario at the local Kohl's here. I also haven't yet had the chance to see the Freshly Fallen coat in person so I can compare the two, but readers? I don't even really want to see it. The Elle coat is beautiful and exactly what I'm looking for, done and done.

Outfit Of The Day (Goin' To Montana)

Ted's Montana Grill, that is. I wish I could say I did something glamorous yesterday, but unless shoving a bbq chicken sandwich into my face at Ted's counts (come on! bbq! chicken! sandwich! paper straws! epitome of fabulousness!) readers, I'm afraid I did not.

I didn't even go shopping. Well. Okay. I'm telling a tiny lie- I did peek into the White House Black Market since it was right next to Ted's Montana Grill and calling my little name. And I spied this. And I grabbed it, quickly tried it on, squealed to myself as the salesclerk said, "Oooh!", came home, and quickly ordered the heck out of it with a 20% off code plus free shipping- but aside from that, nada.

I know, right? I really must be not feeling well. Pfft.

(But Cyber Monday is in a mere 48 hours, darlings, and I make absolutely no promises there, especially because I also spied this at WHBM and it's even more lovelier in person with a black sash tied around it, and whoa.)

I did get dressed up for dinner out though, mostly because I felt like it. Which I think is always the best reason to do something, hm? And I also reeeeally wanted to wear my little Ann Taylor Herringbone Sheath dress since it was super freakishly nice and warm outside, you know- before Madam Mother Nature remembers that it's supposed to be late fall (not summer) and decides to dump five feet of snow on us again.

The result? Husband said I looked very "Breakfast at Tiffany's-ish" (bonus points for him!), my dad asked me if I'd like to borrow one of his salt n' pepper onion rings to wear as a bracelet (har har), and it was a very lovely evening with the fam indeed:
